Recently I purchased the Denon DN-HC1000S Serato USB Midi Controller. So far I've been amazed by the ease, simplicity and functional layout of the controller. So I bought this controller last month and have been using it pretty much every day since, I figured I'd share the many features of this unit with you...
If you're familiar with the cue/cue-point and looping functions within Serato, you already know that some of them are confusing and take multiple keys to activate. With the DN-HC1000S, Denon makes these functions simple and easy, with the touch of a single lighted and labeled button. The loop on and off, auto loop, and loop roll are controlled with one button use. Also a push button knob allows you to chop a looped section in half as many times as you would like or expand it. The loop roll function is also able to be chopped and controlled in the same way. The loop in and out buttons are good sized and directly next to them is the loop on and off button to activate already stored loops.
The rugged and solid construction of the unit makes it possible to basically pound on the buttons with out the worry of breaking a key on your computer. Setting new cue-points is as simple as hitting them in real time as the song is playing, already stored cue-points are shown as illuminated buttons on the unit as each new track is loaded.
The center area of the unit is used for loading tracks, toggling between play lists/crates and your library view. If you have a well-organized music library you virtually don't need to touch your computer for your entire set. Load left and load right buttons as well as instant doubles functions makes this possible. There are also controls to open and navigate the files, browse, history, and prepare windows.
Other features include control of the sampler allowing you to fire all your samples. A track forward and reverse button allows you to go back to the beginning of your track or skip to the next track in your play list. Pitch bend up and down buttons are pretty nice for creating nice effects or fine-tuning a mix. BPM tap buttons for each deck allows you to tap and set BPMs from the unit. The unit also includes a button for the reverse/dump function used for effect or editing out words while keeping the timing of the playing track.
The only problem I have encounter has been when I use my Pioneers 400 CDJ's which act as a native usb control for Serato Scratch Live. Due to the fact that they are recognized as a midi, sometimes it has problems working alog with the Denon DN-HC1000s.
Overall I have found nothing to dislike about the Denon DN-HC1000s it makes the use of Serato very simple and hands on as well as giving you a different feel of using Serato. By simplifying the use of many features of Serato, the unit lets you create a new dimension to your mixing by utilizing features that were complicated and not very user friendly.

The Denon sub controller gives you complete control of Scratch Live without having to use the keyboard!
Just plug and play. That's it. I didn't even have to read any instructions to learn to use this. Better instructions are on Youtube anyway than the ones that are packed in.
This module really opens up your creativity using Scratch Live and I'm finding myself doing things easily I'd normally have to be pretty confident to pull off.
My favorites are the 'censor' button and the auto-loop function. Paid $169 exactly including shipping.
It's WELL worth the money if you DJ!!
Note: Make sure you have the latest version of Serato. If you don't, go download it for free. It didn't work for me at first-then realized I had a later version. Got the latest version and BAM!! Works just fine. AWESOME!!
