5Gig worthy  Sep 12, 2009 By Alan Harris
I am a musician, who performs a single, weekly at local bars and restaurants for 20 years.
I sing, play keyboards, and guitar. I purchased this mixer to use as the primary component of my PA. It replaced a Mackie DFX 12, which was just a little to big to fit in my gig bag. I use it with 2 Behringer powered speakers.

I initially chose this mixer for it's scene modes. Set it once for each venue, and you can recall all of your settings at the touch of a button.
However, I have found this mixer to be very powerful, feature packed, and rather easy to use. The finalizer, that compresses and EQs the complete mix is superb, and each channel has a compressor with tweak-able presets for vocals and instruments.

Also, it is surprisingly well built and road worthy. This was my main concern when I purchased this mixer. Most electronic mixers are very fragile, not so with the M-10.

The built in parametric EQ on each channel is excellent, and the effects are very useable for live performance (I have not recorded with this mixer). I'd like to have a more adjustable stereo delay, but aside from that, this is an excellent mixer if you don't need more channels.

There is an excellent feature that will read the acoustics of the room that you are in, and adjust the mix accordingly. It works very well, however, it utilizes a loud white noise through your PA speakers to read the room, so it is not useable unless you've got access to a venue before any people show up. Then you wouldn't be able to re-read the room to account for the acoustic changes introduced by the audience.

I use 2 mono channels for mics, and 2 stereo channels for keyboards, and occasionally another stereo channel to mic a piano.

Bottom line. This mixer rocks. If you can get away with 10 channels, buy this mixer.

5Geat quality in a portable package!  Sep 12, 2009 By Darryl D. Badong
I play electric/acoustic ukes. I use a 40watt amp for practice and small gigs and needed a mixer. Found this very affordable Edirol by Roland at Amazon. My sounds have gone from good to very good. Will buy another if the need arises.

5For that Elegant Sound  Jul 02, 2010 By R. Stahl
I have the M-16dx, which is the same mixer but with 16 channels. It also comes in two pieces, so you can leave the plug-in box on stage and "snake" the controls to somewhere in the audience for real-time tweaking (this is a great feature, and I'm sorry Roland discontinued it). Finally, the 16 has a USB interface for DAW applications. Otherwise, the features common to both mixers are really spectacular, and I'd like to talk about some of my favorites. I don't know of another mixer that comes close to putting it all in one box like this, unless you are willing to spend hundreds more.

For starters, the "room analyzer" is awesome! Since it sends out bursts of static to optimize the main EQ, you really do have to do it before people arrive. I find that folks are kind of fascinated with the process, though, and don't mind watching it under some circumstances. The static doesn't have to be that loud for the mixer to adjust. This feature alone is worth its weight in gold. It takes a bad PA and makes it good - removes all the tin and mud. I think I'm pretty good with an EQ, but I can't compete with this function. I've used this mixer in probably 25 house PA situations so far, and it is common for the proprietor to get curious about the mixer and tell me that he's never heard the system sound so good.

The next feature that I like is the "COSM insert fx." This is different than the normal reverb and stuff, which is a separate function. The insert fx is apparently proprietary. It's really something. My spouse plays piano and sings in a trio, and her voice is vital. There are settings on the insert fx that bring her voice out on top of the mix with such clarity. My preference is one called "naturalize," but there are various compressors and things.

The mixer also has the ability to remember setup "scenes," which is a feature you only find in high-end mixers. Other than that, you can expect a standard mixer. The main 16-band (I think) EQ is easy to work with. Individual channels have 3-band EQ each, with the added bonus of a sweepable and notch adjusting mid. I love this thing! If you're looking for elegant sound no matter the external amp and speakers, think about this mixer.
