works as advertised. furman has a name in the power strip biz.
based on other reviews, tho, I decided to open it up. It is surprisingly well-thought out. The wiring is all terminated with quality. hot leads are completely shrink-wrapped. Thick metal is used in the chassis. It is thoroughly grounded, to include multiple points on the chassis itself, not just one. The lamps have small switches inside that shut them off if the tubes are pushed in. There are two large inductors (coils) for filtration as well as your typical spike-eaters (didn't see if they were varistors or something else).
Checked Voltmeter. within the +/- 2VAC specs listed. Changed with load, so it wasn't stuck on one number, like a previous reviewer below.
Yes, it's more expensive than other units. And you get more, too.

The Furman M-8Dx power conditioner was the culminating purchase in the process of upgrading to a new home theater system. With the total value of equipment installed, I did not want to use a standard power strip so I began the process of researching power conditioners and surge protectors. This unit clearly sits at the intersection of great features and acceptable price. The construction is all metal and solid with plenty of outlets on the back plus a handy outlet on the front of the unit. I have not used the front outlet yet, but my component cabinet configuration makes this a real plus. The digital voltmeter is a cool feature not normally seen at this price point. I have had the unit installed for about two months and have had zero issues. Would buy it again with no concerns.

Bought it on Amazon, saved a ton of money over any other site! Works well, lights are really handy. Voltage meter is nice extra.

I bought this for use with my electronic drums & amp AFTER some friends had 238 volts go through their mixing board and monitors. Luckily, nothing was damaged.
I find the volt meter to be a help when first powering up before a gig to make sure there is adequate voltage on the circuit. The front mounted dimmable lights are a plus. If you need to know what your amperage is, just look at the tags on your connected equipment.
A great addition to your equipment, and at a very affordable price!

The title and description of this model is accurate. The picture, as best I can tell, is of Furman AR-20 II Voltage Regulator, a $1,500 piece of equipment. The M-8Dx looks more like the M-8Lx with the addition of a digital voltmeter. That said, the M-8Dx appears to be a well made power conditioner at a fair price.
